Aurora Exploration was a junior mining company with several gold licenses in Scotland. During Spring 2022, I worked as a Geological Field Assistant to conduct exploration for gold in the Southern Uplands. This involved working with the company's Chief Geologist to identify appropriate targets and then working independently to collect scree, stream sediment, and soil samples. We identified several promising prospects with grades up to 8ppm and the company was subsequently bought by Sarn Helen Gold.

GeoBus is the science outreach and education programme run by the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of St Andrews. A key part of their mission is to introduce geosciences to students by running educational workshops in schools where geology is not taught. During Summer 2021, I worked for GeoBus in St Andrews to develop new teaching experiments for children to do at home for homeschooling during the pandemic. I then created an instruction guide, produced the activity packs, and sent them out to the student's homes ready for their GeoBus online lessons.

Dynamic Earth is a world-class science outreach centre specialising in geosciences based in Edinburgh. During Summer 2017, I co-ran the Summer School for 8-12-year-old children. This involved creating and running various science-themed activities and games at the Dynamic Earth centre and a series of field trips around Edinburgh, including teaching the geology of Arthur's Seat.
November 2015 - March 2016
During my last year of high school, I contacted Dr Maarten Krabbendam, Senior Survey Geologist at the British Geological Survey, to ask for a work experience opportunity. Over several months, I worked with Dr Krabbendam on Friday afternoons at the BGS office in Edinburgh on his research on the Tweed Palaeo-Ice Stream. This involved using ArcGIS to map and measure glacial features such as drumlins and moraines, then going to the field to take observations. This work was subsequently published by Dr Krabbendam in a review on streamlined hardbeds formed by paleo-ice streams.
September 2014 - May 2016
During the last two years of high school, I worked as a Young Person Carer for one of my peers with Down Syndrome. Once a week, I would take him on public transport to Edinburgh and organise activities, including rock climbing, going to the cinema, and ice skating. I would be responsible for the smooth running of these trips and for his general wellbeing whilst in my care. This developed my skills in patience, personal communication, and as a carer for complex needs.
