September 2016 - June 2022
I have volunteered for over 500 hours with the Canoe Club at St Andrews, including serving on committee for 5 years. I was elected Captain and leader of the club in 2020, and managed to guide the club through the pandemic, maintaining strong membership and negotiating Covid legislation to ensure training and events could operate safely and successfully. I previously served as Treasurer, Safety Officer, Development Officer, and Vice Captain. I organised dozens of trips across the UK and co-led a two-week trip to the Alps for 15 people.
September 2014 - May 2016
I volunteered with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh for over 120 hours during high school. My responsibilities included general garden maintenance, interacting with the visiting members of the public, and wildlife surveys. I primarily worked at Dawyck Gardens near Peebles, where I volunteered initially as part of my Gold DofE Award, then I enjoyed it so much that I continued after until I went to University.
August 2015 & August 2016
I have volunteered twice as a residential volunteer for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). The first time was for one week at the RSPB Abernethy reserve in the Scottish Highlands. My responsibilities here involved forestry management, wildlife surveying, and interacting with the public. I then spent two weeks volunteering on the RSPB Oronsay reserve in the Inner Hebrides off Scotland's west coast. This is a working farm and so my responsibilities included general farm maintenance alongside wildlife surveying.
